Student summer storage checklist

The short answer: To store your things over the summer: sort and clear out what you do not need, pack boxes with the heaviest items at the bottom, label every box, write an inventory, empty and defrost any fridge, and book a collection day before you move out. Then arrange for your things to be delivered back when you return.
Four weeks before you move out
Sort and clear out
Sell, donate or bin anything you will not use next year. Every box you do not store is money saved.
Choose single items or a unit
A few boxes and a bike are single items. A whole room is a unit. If you are unsure, our size guide helps.
Book your collection day
Collection days fill up at the end of term. Choose your day as soon as you know your move-out date.
Packing
- Use small, strong boxes. Books are heavy, so do not overfill a large box.
- Put the heaviest items at the bottom and fill any gaps with soft items such as clothes.
- Tape the bottom and top of every box securely.
- Wrap anything fragile, and keep bedding and clothes in sealed bags.
- Empty, clean and dry any fridge or freezer, and leave the door slightly open when stored if you can.
Label and list everything
Write your name and the contents on at least two sides of every box. Then make a simple list, room by room. Storeo asks every customer for an inventory, because it validates your insurance, and it also means you can find things quickly in September.
On collection day
Make sure someone is at the address to let our team in. Keep what you need for the summer separate so it does not get packed by mistake. Check your inventory against what leaves the house.
Getting it back in September
When you are ready, ask for a return in My storage, choose a day, and we deliver to your door. You can also visit by appointment with three full working days' written notice.
Common questions
Can international students use storage?
Yes. Storage is paid by Direct Debit, which needs a UK bank account, so please call us before booking if you do not have one.
How early should I book?
As early as you can. Collection days fill up at the end of term.
